A 56-year-old Indian national from Hyderabad has finally reunited with his family after years of hardship, having returned home with his Saudi travel ban resolved through community intervention.
Mohammed Abdul Aleem spent over 15 years working as a salesman in the Kingdom, during which he bought a vehicle on an installment plan. However, his life took a tragic turn when his wife fell gravely ill, prompting him to return to India. Following her death, Aleem remained in his hometown for nearly three years, making it impossible to keep up with his car payments.
Unaware of the full legal consequences, Aleem later secured a new visa and returned to Saudi Arabia to work as a domestic driver. Upon arrival, he discovered that his unpaid vehicle debt had triggered a court-issued travel ban, legally restricting him from exiting the country.
Aleem’s plight worsened significantly when he suffered a severe stroke that left one side of his body paralyzed. After undergoing initial treatment at King Abdulaziz Hospital in Jeddah, he was relocated to Waqf Darakum, a local charitable shelter, for extended care.
His rescue came after M.A. Yusuff Ali, Chairman of LuLu Group, learned about his dire medical and legal situation. Yusuff Ali stepped in to clear the pending debt, initiating the official legal process to lift the travel restriction.
LuLu Group representatives managed the legal paperwork and covered Aleem’s travel arrangements, including hiring a caregiver for the journey. The Indian Consulate in Jeddah expedited the process by providing an Emergency Certificate and handling final exit clearances, while local community volunteers helped coordinate his safe return.
Aleem has now safely arrived in India, bringing a long chapter of financial, medical, and legal hardships to an end. Legal experts point to this case as a stark reminder for expatriates in Saudi Arabia to resolve all personal debts before leaving, as unpaid financial liabilities can result in strict legal bans and exit restrictions.
