1 Saudi riyal = 0.2667 US dollars, and 1 US dollar = 3.75 Saudi riyals. The Saudi riyal to USD rate does not float: the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) keeps the riyal fixed at 3.75 to the dollar, so this page shows the same official figure every day, with SAR to USD and USD to SAR tables and tips for paying and sending money.

Why the Saudi Riyal to USD Rate Never Changes
Saudi Arabia has pegged the riyal to the US dollar at 3.75 riyals per dollar since 1986. In its statement on exchange rate policy, SAMA says it remains committed to keeping the exchange rate at the official rate of 3.75 as an anchor of monetary and financial stability, backed by large foreign exchange reserves.

Because the dollar rate is fixed, the riyal moves against other currencies only when those currencies move against the dollar. That is why our SAR to INR and SAR to PKR pages change daily while SAR to USD stays at 0.2667.
Why Your SAR to USD Rate Is Not Exactly 3.75
The 3.75 figure is the official rate. In practice, every provider adds a margin, so here is what to expect in Saudi Arabia:
- Banks and exchange houses: they buy dollars slightly below 3.75 and sell slightly above it. The gap is small on the riyal compared with most currencies because of the peg, but always compare the final amount.
- Airport exchange counters: usually the widest margin. Change only what you need for the first taxi or meal, then use a card or ATM in the city.
- American cards: Visa and Mastercard are accepted almost everywhere in Saudi cities, including tap to pay. Your US bank may add a foreign transaction fee, often around 3%, unless your card has none.
- Pay in SAR, not USD: when a card machine or ATM offers to charge you in dollars (dynamic currency conversion), decline. Its rate is almost always worse than your card network rate.
Quick Saudi Prices in US Dollars

| Boulevard World ticket, last season (weekday) | SAR 30 | about $8.00 |
| Boulevard World ticket, last season (weekend) | SAR 40 | about $10.67 |
| Monthly salary offer | SAR 10,000 | about $2,667 |
| Customs cash declaration threshold | SAR 40,000 | about $10,667 |

Sending Money Between the US and Saudi Arabia
Based on real expat experience in KSA, American and other expats who are paid in riyals usually send money to the US through their Saudi bank’s app or a licensed remittance provider. Because the riyal is fixed to the dollar, the rate barely differs between providers, so the transfer fee and the dollars received matter more than the headline rate.
- From Saudi Arabia to the US: compare your bank’s international transfer with licensed apps and exchange houses. Our best money transfer services guide compares the main options.
- From the US to Saudi Arabia: a bank wire to a Saudi IBAN or a licensed online transfer service both work. The receiving account must be in the recipient’s name, and the Saudi bank may ask about the purpose of the transfer.
- Carrying cash: declare cash, gold or valuables worth SAR 40,000 (about $10,667) or more when you enter or leave. See our cash declaration limit guide.
- Saudi debit cards abroad: if you live in Saudi Arabia and travel to the US, check how your mada card works overseas in our mada card abroad guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is 1 Saudi riyal to USD today?
One Saudi riyal is worth about 0.2667 US dollars, and one US dollar is 3.75 riyals. The Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) fixes the riyal at this official rate, so the figure stays the same every day. Banks, exchange counters and card networks add their own margin, so the rate you are offered may be slightly worse.
Is the Saudi riyal pegged to the US dollar?
Yes. The riyal has been pegged to the US dollar at 3.75 riyals per dollar since 1986, and SAMA has publicly affirmed its commitment to keep the official rate. This is why prices in Saudi Arabia convert to dollars with simple maths: divide the riyal amount by 3.75.
How do I convert SAR to USD quickly?
Divide the riyal amount by 3.75, or multiply it by 0.2667. For a rough figure in your head, multiply by 0.27: SAR 100 is about 27 dollars and SAR 1,000 is about 267 dollars. To go from dollars to riyals, multiply by 3.75: 100 dollars is SAR 375. The tables on this page do the maths for common amounts.
Should I pay in SAR or USD with my American card in Saudi Arabia?
Choose SAR. When a card machine or ATM offers to charge you in US dollars, it uses its own conversion rate, which is usually worse than your card network rate. Paying in riyals lets Visa or Mastercard convert at close to 3.75, plus any foreign transaction fee your bank charges.
How much cash can I bring into Saudi Arabia from the US?
There is no ban on carrying dollars, but you must make a written customs declaration if you enter or leave Saudi Arabia with cash, gold or valuables worth SAR 40,000 or more, which is about 10,670 US dollars. Declaring is free and protects you from fines and seizure.
