Last updated: 27 October 2026
The driver salary in Saudi Arabia in 2026 depends mostly on the type of driving. House drivers hired by families through Musaned usually earn SAR 1,000 to 3,000 a month with free accommodation and food. Company and office drivers are mostly paid SAR 2,500 to 3,500. Heavy truck and trailer drivers with a Saudi heavy licence and Gulf experience can reach SAR 4,000 to 4,500. There is no legal minimum wage for expat drivers; your contract decides the figure.
Many expats in Saudi Arabia, and many families in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh weighing an offer, see wildly different numbers for the same job: SAR 1,200 in one agency ad, SAR 4,500 in another. The gap is real, but it is not random. It comes from who employs the driver (a family or a company), which licence the job needs, what is included on top of the basic pay, and whether the ad is aimed at Saudi nationals. This guide sorts those numbers out and explains the rules that protect a driver’s pay.

Why Some Driver Jobs Pay SAR 4,000 and Others SAR 1,200
If you search Saudi job sites, you will find many driver ads at SAR 4,000 to 4,500. On sabbar.com, for example, most of the 18 driver listings we read on 27 October 2026 offered SAR 4,000 to 4,500 for private car and mini truck drivers. Recruitment ads aimed at Pakistan or India for similar work often show SAR 1,200 to 1,500. Three things explain the difference:
- Saudi or expat target. SAR 4,000 is the pay at which a Saudi employee counts fully for a company’s Saudization quota (see our minimum salary in Saudi Arabia guide). Many local ads at exactly SAR 4,000 to 4,100 are written for Saudi applicants. That threshold is going up to SAR 5,000 and later SAR 6,000 under the October 2026 royal order.
- Package versus cash. A house driver on SAR 1,500 with a room, three meals, medical cover and a yearly ticket keeps almost all of it. A company driver on SAR 3,000 who rents his own bed space and buys his own food may send home less.
- Licence and experience. A heavy or trailer licence, a clean traffic record, knowledge of the main cities and Arabic or English push the salary up. A first-time driver without a Saudi licence starts at the bottom.
House Driver Salary in Saudi Arabia
A house driver (also called a family or private driver) drives the employer’s family: school runs, shopping, hospital visits, sometimes airport trips at night. He is sponsored by an individual, not a company, and his contract is registered on Musaned, the Ministry of Human Resources platform for domestic workers.
Typical 2026 offers are SAR 1,000 to 1,500 for a new driver from Pakistan, Bangladesh or India, and SAR 1,800 to 2,000 or more for an experienced driver who already holds a Saudi licence and knows the city. Families with several children, long daily routes or night work usually pay more. Based on real expat experience in KSA, drivers who transfer locally to a new family (instead of arriving on a new visa) can ask for more because they are ready to start on day one.
What the employer pays on top of the salary
- Iqama renewal for a house driver: SAR 600 a year, paid by the employer (see iqama renewal fees).
- Recruitment costs through a Musaned-licensed office, visa and medical tests.
- Accommodation, food and a ticket home when the contract ends, as agreed in the contract.
- The Saudi driving licence and medical check if the driver arrives without one.
House Driver Rights: Pay, Rest, Leave and End of Service
House drivers are covered by the Regulation of Domestic Workers (Council of Ministers resolution 310 of 1434 AH), not by the main Labour Law. In Saudi Arabia, this rule works differently from company jobs, so it is worth knowing the key articles:
| Right | What the regulation says |
|---|---|
| Salary date | Paid at the end of each Hijri month, unless both sides agree otherwise in writing |
| Daily rest | At least 9 hours of rest every day |
| Weekly day off | One weekly rest day, as agreed in the contract |
| Annual leave | One month of paid leave after two years, when the contract is renewed for a similar period |
| Sick leave | Paid sick leave of up to 30 days a year with a medical report |
| Deductions | Only for deliberate damage, an advance or a court order, and never more than half the salary |
| Probation | Up to 90 days |
| Ticket home | Paid by the employer when the contract ends, or when the employer ends it without a legal reason |
| End of service | One month’s salary after four consecutive years with the same employer |
Salary must be paid electronically since January 2026
Cash salaries for house drivers are no longer allowed. The Ministry of Human Resources announced the fifth and final phase of mandatory electronic salary transfers for domestic workers from 1 January 2026, covering all employers. The employer links the driver’s mobile number to his iqama, the driver opens a bank account or digital wallet in his own name, and the employer pays through the “Salary Transfer for Domestic Workers” service using banks and wallets approved by Musaned. Our guide to domestic worker salary transfer walks through the steps.

For the driver, the transfer record is proof of payment. If a family stops paying, the bank history makes a complaint far easier. Our guide on what to do when an employer is not paying your salary covers the complaint route.
Company Driver and Heavy Truck Driver Salary in Saudi Arabia
Drivers employed by companies (office and staff drivers, pickup and light truck drivers, bus drivers, heavy truck and trailer drivers) work under the Saudi Labour Law and their contracts sit on Qiwa. Their pay is reported to GOSI and paid through the Wage Protection System, so salary delays are easier to prove.
Light vehicle and office drivers
Salary sites put the average light vehicle driver in Saudi Arabia at about SAR 3,000 a month in 2026, with most offers between SAR 2,500 and SAR 3,500. Office and VIP drivers for managers sit at the upper end, especially with good English and a clean record. Many companies pay a basic salary plus a housing allowance, so read the split: allowances count toward your end of service if they are part of the regular wage.
Truck driver salary in Saudi Arabia
Truck driver salary in Saudi Arabia depends on the vehicle. Mini truck and pickup drivers usually earn SAR 2,000 to 3,500. Heavy truck, tanker and trailer drivers average roughly SAR 3,500 on salary sites, and experienced long-haul drivers with Gulf experience can reach SAR 4,000 to 4,500 with trip allowances. Some recruitment offers for heavy drivers start lower, around SAR 1,200 to 1,400, but include housing, food, transport and medical care, so compare the full package.
Heavy drivers in the goods transport sector also face extra rules from the Transport General Authority (TGA), including a professional driver card; the TGA extended the compliance deadline for it to August 2026. Ask your employer whether your card is done before you sign.
Overtime, leave and end of service for company drivers
- Normal hours are 8 a day or 48 a week. Overtime is paid at the hourly wage plus 50% of the basic hourly wage. Work out what you are owed with our overtime calculator.
- Annual leave is 21 days a year, rising to 30 days after five years with the same employer.
- End of service is half a month’s wage for each of the first five years and a full month for each year after. Check your figure with the end of service calculator.
Delivery and Taxi App Drivers: Can Expats Do It?
Ride-hailing apps such as Uber and Careem are restricted to Saudi drivers, so expats cannot drive for them on their own account. Delivery apps are different. Under Transport General Authority rules phased in from April 2024, non-Saudi couriers may work only through licensed delivery companies, not as freelancers, must wear the company uniform and pass face verification in the app. Self-employment in delivery is reserved for Saudis.
Expat delivery drivers are therefore paid by the delivery company: a base salary, often with a per-order bonus, and sometimes a motorbike or car and fuel support. The figures vary too much between companies to give a fair average, so ask for the base salary, the per-order rate and who pays fuel, fines and vehicle damage in writing. Traffic fines add up fast in this job; see our list of Saudi traffic violations.
Driving Licence and Iqama Profession for Driver Jobs
Every paid driver needs a valid Saudi licence of the right type and, normally, a driver profession on the iqama. The common cases:
- House and car drivers: a Saudi car licence. Drivers from some countries can convert a valid home licence; others must go through a Saudi driving school. The steps and Ministry of Interior fees are in our driving licence guide.
- Heavy and trailer drivers: a heavy or public work licence, which needs the right profession on the iqama and a letter from the employer.
- Renewal: a licence linked to an old iqama number must be updated when the iqama changes; see licence renewal with a new iqama.

How to Judge a Driver Job Offer
- Get the basic salary, every allowance and the working hours in writing, in the Musaned or Qiwa contract, not only on WhatsApp.
- Check what is free: accommodation, food, medical insurance, the yearly or end-of-contract ticket.
- Ask who pays the Saudi licence, the driving school and traffic fines.
- Count the weekly day off and night or airport duties.
- Convert the salary to your home currency on our SAR to PKR, SAR to INR or SAR to BDT pages, then subtract what you will spend in Saudi Arabia.
- Compare with other jobs in our Saudi Arabia salary guide 2026.
Many expats in Saudi Arabia accept the first offer because the agency is in a hurry. A ten-minute check of the contract against this list is usually worth SAR 200 to 500 a month.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the average driver salary in Saudi Arabia?
For expat drivers, most offers in 2026 sit between SAR 1,000 and SAR 3,500 a month. House drivers hired through Musaned are usually at the low end, often with free housing and food. Company light-vehicle drivers average about SAR 3,000 on salary sites, and experienced heavy truck drivers can reach SAR 4,000 to 4,500. Job ads at SAR 4,000 and above are often aimed at Saudi nationals.
What is the house driver salary in Saudi Arabia?
Advertised house driver salaries in 2026 are mostly SAR 1,000 to 1,500 a month on the Pakistan government jobs board, and around SAR 1,800 on salary sites, usually with a room, food and medical care from the family. Experienced drivers who speak Arabic or English and know the city well can earn SAR 2,000 to 3,000. The exact figure is the one written in your Musaned contract.
Is there a minimum salary for drivers in Saudi Arabia?
No. Saudi Arabia has no statutory minimum wage for expat workers, including drivers. Pay is whatever your contract says. The SAR 4,000 figure you often hear is the Nitaqat threshold for a Saudi employee to count fully in Saudization, and it rises to SAR 5,000 and then SAR 6,000 under the October 2026 royal order. Some sending countries set their own minimum for their workers.
Can a house driver be paid in cash in 2026?
No. Since 1 January 2026 every employer must pay domestic workers, including house drivers, electronically through banks and digital wallets approved by Musaned. The Ministry of Human Resources says this documents each payment and protects both sides. The driver can still withdraw cash with the mada card linked to his account.
How many days off does a house driver get in Saudi Arabia?
The Domestic Workers Regulation gives at least nine hours of rest every day and one weekly rest day as agreed in the contract. After two years, a driver who renews for a similar period is entitled to one month of paid leave, plus paid sick leave of up to 30 days a year with a medical report. Write the weekly day off into the contract.
Do house drivers get end of service benefits?
Yes, but the rule is different from company workers. A domestic worker, including a house driver, is entitled to one month’s wage after four consecutive years with the same employer. Drivers employed by companies fall under the Labour Law instead, which gives half a month’s wage for each of the first five years and a full month for each year after that.
Can expats work as delivery or taxi app drivers in Saudi Arabia?
Ride-hailing app driving is restricted to Saudi nationals. For delivery apps, the Transport General Authority rules from 2024 allow non-Saudi couriers only through licensed delivery companies, not as freelancers, with a uniform and face verification in the app. Expat delivery drivers are usually paid a base salary from the company plus a per-order bonus.
