The Saudi CV format that works best for expats in 2026 is a clean English CV of one to two pages: your name and target job, a +966 phone number, a short profile, experience with real numbers, education, any Saudi licence or skills certificate, and one line on your Iqama status and notice period. Keep a second, single-column version without a photo for online job portals. You can build both versions free with our CV maker for Saudi jobs, with no sign-up and no watermark.
Many expats in Saudi Arabia send the same CV they used back home and then wonder why nobody calls. Saudi employers look for a few things that a CV from India, Pakistan, the Philippines or Egypt usually leaves out: whether you are already in the Kingdom, whether your Iqama can be transferred, which Saudi body has registered or tested you, and how fast you can join. This guide shows exactly what to put on the page, with a real sample made in our tool.
Saudi CV Format at a Glance
| Part | What to write | Why it matters in Saudi Arabia |
|---|---|---|
| Header | Full name, target job title, +966 mobile, email, city, nationality | Recruiters sort by job and nationality quotas; a local number shows you are reachable |
| Profile | 2 to 3 lines: years of experience, field, best result | Recruiters skim the top of page one first |
| Experience | Newest job first: title, company, city, dates, 2 to 4 bullet points with numbers | Saudi or GCC experience is a strong plus, so show the country clearly |
| Education | Degree or diploma, institute, year | Must match your attested certificate and visa profession |
| Licences and certificates | SCE, SCFHS, SOCPA, SVP certificate, safety tickets | Many jobs legally need these before the work permit |
| Additional information | Iqama status, transferable or not, notice period, Saudi driving licence, languages | Tells the employer how fast and how cheaply you can join |

1. Saudi CV Format Length: One Page or Two?
Keep your CV to one page if you have less than five years of experience and to two pages for most experienced professionals. A regional survey by Bayt.com of hiring decision makers in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, found that the largest group preferred a CV of one page or less, and almost no one wanted long CVs. The survey is old, but recruiters in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam still say the same thing today.
The reason is simple: the first look is short. In an eye-tracking study reported by HR Dive, recruiters spent an average of 7.4 seconds on a CV before deciding whether to read on. Clear headings, bold job titles and bullet points kept their attention; long paragraphs and two-column clutter lost it.
2. Photo or No Photo: Saudi CV Format Rules
In Saudi Arabia, a professional photo on a CV is still common and many employers expect it when you send your CV directly or through a local agency. Use a plain background, formal clothes and a recent picture. No selfies, no sunglasses, no group photos.
Leave the photo off when you apply through an online portal or a large company careers site. These systems, called applicant tracking systems (ATS), read the text of your CV, and pictures, tables and text boxes can scramble it. Jobscan found ATS software at 97.4% of Fortune 500 companies in 2026, and many large employers in Saudi Arabia also hire through online application systems. The practical answer is to keep two versions:
- Modern CV with photo: for WhatsApp, email to a hiring manager, walk-in interviews and recruitment agencies.
- ATS-friendly CV without photo: single column, standard headings, for job portals and company websites.
Our free CV maker creates both from the same details: switch “CV format” from Modern CV to ATS friendly and the photo and side styling disappear.

3. Personal Details: What Saudi Employers Expect
The Saudi CV format usually carries more personal detail than a CV for Europe or the US, because visa rules, Saudization quotas and family status affect the cost of hiring you. Include:
- Nationality: standard on Saudi CVs. Employers have nationality quotas and visa blocks for specific countries.
- Phone with country code: write +966 5X XXX XXXX if you are in the Kingdom, or your home number with its country code. A missing code is one of the most common reasons a recruiter cannot reach you.
- City: Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam or Al Khobar matters, because many jobs prefer local candidates who can start without relocation.
- Iqama status: for example “Iqama: valid, transferable”. See how a transfer works in our guide to the Iqama transfer status in Qiwa.
- Notice period: “Available to join: 30 days” or “Immediate”. Know your rights under Article 81 of the Saudi Labor Law before you promise a date.
- Saudi driving licence: say so if you have one; it is a requirement for drivers, sales reps and many technician jobs. Our guide to the Saudi driving licence covers how to get one.
Date of birth and marital status are optional. Some local employers still ask for them, especially when a family visa or accommodation is involved, but many multinational companies prefer that you leave them out. Religion, weight and passport numbers do not belong on a CV.
It helps to know the legal position. Article 3 of the Saudi Labor Law bans discrimination in work, including in recruitment, based on sex, disability, age or any other form, but the article is written for Saudi citizens. There is no official rule listing what an employer may or may not ask an expat applicant, so give the details that help your case and skip the rest.
4. Saudi Licences and Certificates to Put on Page One
This is the part of the Saudi CV format that most guides miss, and it is often what gets an expat shortlisted. Many professions in Saudi Arabia need registration with a Saudi body before the work permit or Iqama is issued. If you already have it, put it near the top. If you do not, write that you are eligible or that the application is in progress.
| Profession | What to list | Who issues it |
|---|---|---|
| Engineers and technicians | Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) membership and classification grade | Saudi Council of Engineers |
| Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, lab and allied health staff | SCFHS professional classification and registration number (Mumaris+) | Saudi Commission for Health Specialties |
| Accountants, auditors, financial controllers | SOCPA membership and professional registration | SOCPA |
| Skilled trades (electricians, plumbers, HVAC, welders and more) | Skill Verification Program (SVP) certificate with profession and year | Ministry of Human Resources (MHRSD) via Qiwa |
| All degree holders | Degree attested for Saudi Arabia (embassy or cultural attaché attestation) | Saudi embassy in your home country |
Health workers: SCFHS and Mumaris+
According to the SCFHS Mumaris+ FAQ, professional classification is the first legal step for health practitioners and you can apply for it from abroad. Professional registration comes later and needs legal residence in Saudi Arabia. Write your classification number on your CV if you have it; a hospital can then move faster on your visa.
Accountants: SOCPA registration
Since 31 August 2019, expats in 19 accounting and finance professions, including general accountant, cost accountant, internal auditor and financial controller, must hold SOCPA membership and professional registration when their work permit is issued or renewed, according to the Ministry of Human Resources. A CV that already shows “SOCPA member” puts you ahead of candidates who do not.
Skilled workers: the Skill Verification Program
The Ministry of Human Resources launched the Skill Verification Program in March 2021. It now covers more than 1,000 professions in 23 fields, with theory and practical tests. Workers can take it in their home country before the visa or inside Saudi Arabia. If you have passed it, list it under Certifications with the profession and year, exactly as our sample below does.
Degrees: attestation and verification
Your degree on the CV must match the certificate you will attest. The Saudi embassy in India, for example, explains on its attestation page that certificates go through the Saudi Cultural Attaché and then the embassy through an authorised agency. Saudi Arabia has also extended its professional verification of academic qualifications for work visas to 160 countries. Do not round up a diploma into a degree; mismatches are found at this stage and can cost you the visa. After arrival, see our guide to Mosadaqa verification for documents checked through MOFA.
5. Experience: Write It the Way Saudi Recruiters Read It
List your newest job first. For each job, write the title, company, city and country, and the dates, then two to four bullet points that start with an action and contain a number. Compare:
- Weak: “Responsible for maintenance of AC units.”
- Strong: “Maintain 140 split and package units across 3 hospital buildings; cut repeat breakdown calls by 30%.”
Put the country next to every job, because Saudi and GCC experience counts for a lot. If a job title is not well known in the Gulf, add a few words of explanation. Do not inflate titles or dates: employers check your history, and in Saudi Arabia your GOSI record shows your Saudi employers and registered wage. You can download it yourself through our guide to the GOSI salary certificate.
6. Skills and Keywords for ATS
Copy the exact words from the job advert into your skills and experience where they are true for you. If the advert says “preventive maintenance” and “CMMS”, use those words, not “servicing” and “computer system”. Keep the ATS version in one column, with standard headings such as Experience, Education and Skills, and save it as a PDF unless the portal asks for Word.
Avoid these on the ATS version: photos, tables, icons for phone and email, text in the header or footer, and fancy fonts. Arial, Calibri or similar at 10 to 12 points is safe.

7. English or Arabic CV?
For almost all jobs open to expats, an English CV is enough. Arabic is mainly expected for government jobs, roles reserved for Saudi nationals and customer-facing jobs where Arabic is part of the work. If you speak Arabic, say so under languages, with your honest level. If you need an Arabic version, have it written or checked by a fluent speaker; machine translation shows immediately. Our CV maker switches the headings and layout to Arabic for you, but you still need to write the content in Arabic yourself.
8. Sample Saudi CV Format, Section by Section
Here is the sample we built in our CV maker for an Indian HVAC technician already working in Dammam. Change the details to your own job and keep the structure:
- Header: Mohammed Rafiq, HVAC Technician, +966 55 123 4567, email, LinkedIn, Dammam, Saudi Arabia, Nationality: Indian.
- Profile: 7 years in Saudi Arabia and India, split, package and chiller systems in hospitals and malls, fast fault-finding, permit-to-work.
- Experience: current Saudi job first with three numbered results, then the previous job in India with one result.
- Education: Diploma in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, institute, year.
- Skills: chiller maintenance, VRF systems, preventive maintenance, refrigerant recovery, electrical troubleshooting, permit to work, CMMS.
- Certifications: Skill Verification Program certificate (HVAC Technician, 2025), OSHA 30-hour safety.
- Additional information: Iqama valid and transferable, Saudi driving licence, 30 days notice, languages.
The same structure works for other common expat jobs, with a different focus:
| Job | Put first | Add in Additional information |
|---|---|---|
| Driver | Saudi licence type, years driving in KSA, routes and cities you know | Clean traffic record, vehicle types, Absher-ready documents |
| Nurse | SCFHS classification, specialty, hospital and bed count | BLS or ACLS certificates and expiry dates |
| Accountant | SOCPA status, ERP systems, ZATCA VAT and e-invoicing work | Saudi payroll or GOSI experience |
| Engineer | SCE grade, project types and values, codes you work to | Saudi Building Code or Aramco standards experience |
| Sales | Targets hit with numbers, territory, product type | Saudi driving licence, Arabic level |
| Safety officer | NEBOSH or OSHA certificates, sites and man-hours without incident | Aramco or SEC site approvals if you hold them |
9. Saudi CV Format Mistakes That Get You Rejected
- No country code on the phone number, or a number you do not answer.
- A degree, title or salary that does not match your certificates or GOSI record.
- Four or five pages, or a two-column design sent to an online portal.
- Spelling mistakes and a general CV with no words from the job advert.
- Missing Iqama status and notice period when you are already in Saudi Arabia.
- Paying an agent who promises a job for a “CV processing fee”. Real employers do not charge you to apply.
Where to Send Your CV in Saudi Arabia
Once your CV is ready, use more than one channel. Our guide on how to get a job in Saudi Arabia covers job sites, agencies and referrals in detail. A few Saudi-specific points:
- Qiwa: the Ministry of Human Resources platform has a free resume management service in Arabic and English inside the individual account. Log in with your Iqama through Nafath; our Qiwa login guide shows how.
- Jadarat: the national employment platform is for Saudi job seekers, so expats should not rely on it.
- Company careers pages: big employers such as Almarai hire through their own portals, which is where your ATS version matters most.
Before you negotiate, check what your job pays with our Saudi salary guide 2026. Women job seekers should also read our guide to jobs in Saudi Arabia for females, and students and dependents can see which part-time jobs are legal.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best CV format for jobs in Saudi Arabia?
For most expat jobs in Saudi Arabia, use a clean English CV of one or two pages in reverse date order: name and target job, contact details with +966, a short profile, experience with numbers, education, Saudi licences or certificates, and a short line on Iqama status and notice period. Keep a single-column version without photo for online portals.
Should I put a photo on my CV for Saudi Arabia?
A professional photo is still common on CVs sent directly to Saudi employers, and many recruiters in the region expect it. Leave the photo off when you apply through an online portal or a large company, because applicant tracking systems read text, not images, and a photo can break the layout. Our free CV maker gives you both versions from the same details.
Do I need an Arabic CV to work in Saudi Arabia?
Most jobs open to expats ask for an English CV. An Arabic CV is mainly needed for government roles, jobs reserved for Saudi nationals and some customer-facing roles where Arabic is part of the job. If the job advert is in Arabic or asks for Arabic, send an Arabic version as well, written properly rather than machine translated.
Should I write my Iqama status on my CV?
Yes, if you already live in Saudi Arabia. A line such as “Iqama: valid, transferable” or “Iqama valid until March 2027” tells the employer you can join without a new work visa, which saves them time and cost. Add your notice period and whether you hold a Saudi driving licence. If you are applying from abroad, write “Available to relocate” instead.
How long should a Saudi CV be?
Keep it to one page if you have under five years of experience and two pages for most experienced professionals. Senior engineers, doctors and managers can go a little longer if every line is relevant. Recruiters skim first, so put your target job, Saudi experience and licences on page one, and cut old or unrelated jobs.
